BULLOCH, ANGELA
* 1966 Ontario
The artist Angela Bulloch was born in Ontario, Canada, in 1966 and moved to England with her family in 1977. From 1985 to 1988 she studied at the renowned Goldsmiths College in London. From 2001 to 2002 she was a visiting professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In 2018, she became a professor of Time-Based Media at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste in Hamburg and now commutes between Berlin and London.
Angela Bulloch was one of the Young British Artists, which also included Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin and Sarah Lucas. However, she did not adopt a loud, provocative approach, but created calm, sensuous works. She uses sculptures, projections, installations and video installations to analyse systems, patterns and sets of rules. In addition, she explores the history of forms and human interaction. Through the use and combination of light, text, video and sound, she creates impressive multidisciplinary installations. In addition to numerous exhibitions worldwide, Bulloch received the Whitechapel Award in 1986, was nominated for the Turner Prize, the most prestigious contemporary art award, in 1997, and received the National Gallery Prize in Berlin in 2005.Angela Bulloch lives and works in Berlin.Works from our auctions
