A PAIR OF CANDLESTICKS, WITH A YOUNG SATYR
Louis XVI style, France, 19th century.
Bronze with a brown patina and gilt bronze, in part chased and embossed. A young satyr with an opulently filled fruit basket as a nozzle on a round, retracted base with pearl frieze garlands and an acorn pendant on spherical feet.
H 26 cm.
Scratches and minor dents. Slightly rubbed. 2 pendants replaced. Pearl frieze loose.
The model for the young satyr with a fruit basket may have been derived from an original design for a wall sconce by Louis Prieur (1732–1795), ca. 1775.
