- Sotheby's Auction, 5 July 1998, Lot No. 30.

Archduchess Gisela was the second-born daughter of Emperor Franz Joseph I and the famous Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sisi). At the age of 16, she married Prince Leopold of Bavaria on the initiative of her mother. Princess Gisela was highly esteemed at the court for her modesty and down-to-earthness. Her charitable character and commitment were evident during the First World War, when Princess Gisela set up a sanatorium for wounded soldiers in the Prince Leopold Palace, her ancestral palace. She died in 1932 as the last of the four children of Emperor Franz Josef I and Empress Elisabeth.
A house altar by Theyer for Archduke Franz Carl (1802-1878) shows great similarities in design, style, and use of materials (Dorotheum, Kaiserhaus und Historika Auction, 30 October 2017, Lot No. 138). Franz Theyer was a Purveyor of wooden items and ecclestiatical objects to the Royal and Imperial Court in Vienna.
