A NETSUKE OF TANUKI BOZO (RACOON-DOG AS A PRIEST).
Japan, 19th c. Height 4.7 cm.
Bone. The figure, which is half human and half animal, captures the moment of transformation. The animal half is covered by large lotus leaves except for the face and the paw at the base. Signed Masatomo.
Provenance: Old Swiss private collection, thence by descent.
