A LACQUER FIGURE OF FUKUKENJAKU KANNON.
Japan, 17th/18th c. Height 91 cm, figure 55 cm.
Wood with gold over black and red lacquer, the eyes are barely visible under the almost closed lids. A manifestation of Kannon, here with three heads, who is literally 'never without a lasso' in one of her many hands to catch stray souls to lead them to salvation. Minor traces of age.
Provenance: Old Swiss private collection from Southern Switzerland.
