SILVER-SET "NANJING-CHANGJIANG-BRIDGE".
China, around 1970, length (tray) 42 cm, weight 2495 g.
Stone-set and partly enamelled silver set consisting of 1 ewer, 1 tray and 8 small goblets. The cartouches on the ewer are showing the famous Nanjing-Changjiang-Bridge. (10)
The "Nanjing Changjiang Daqiao" was completed and open for traffic in 1968. The construction started in 1960, with help from Soviet engineers. After the Sino-Soviet split, the engineers left and work halted. During the Cultural Revolution, the construction of the bridge became a prestigious project and the completion was celebrated as an accomplishment of the Chinese workers, and propagated accordingly over various media.
