In his work reports in April 1745, Kändler refers for the first time to such a commission for the Queen, noting “Zu einem Reintel für Ihro Majest. die Königin einer sauber verzierten Fuss poussiret”.
Only two other comparable casseroles with the royal coat of arms of Maria Josepha of Saxony (1699-1757), born Archduchess of Austria and wife of the Saxon Elector Friedrich August II, are known. One example painted with landscape cartouches can be found in the State Art Collections in Dresden (Inv. No. PE7823); another, formerly in the Marouf Collection, was sold at Bonhams, 5 December 2012, Lot No. 43.
A "Reintel" without the royal coat of arms bears fine floral decorations and is in the collections of the Bavarian National Museum in Munich (Rückert, Meissener Porzellan 1710-1810, 1966, Nos. 576 and 577).
Comparative literature: Pietsch, C. Banz, Triumph der blauen Schwerter, 2010, Cat. No. 108; Pietsch, Passion for Meissen, 2010, No. 64.
