Book of Hours. Latin script on vellum. With 2 full page miniatures, 8 leaves of text with rich floral and figural borders and 13 major initials (3-6 lines) and numerous smaller initials (1-2 lines). Heightened in gold throughout and illuminated in colour.
France, last quarter of the 15th century. 12 × 8.5 cm. [114] ff. (of which 7 white). Written area 7 × 4.6 cm. 17 line Textura. Black-brown, red and blue ink. Restored brown leather binding of the period, with scudding and roll stamped ornament over wooden boards on 3 cords with 2 intact brass clasps, gilt edge (using the old mounts from cover; somewhat rubbed and abraded, gilt edge faded).
In addition to the prayers for the Adoration of the Virgin Mary, prayers on ff. 69–72 "Hore beate Katharine virg[in]is et martyris…"; fol. 76 ff.: ;liturgical prayers and hymns inc Te deum. f. 4r and f. 66v Coat of arms of the House of Bruhier. f. 31v Border with foliate scrolls and interesting images of skulls. From f. 107 verso another hand. Legible and clean script. The high quality and fine borders mostly with floral ornament some on gold ground, with fresh colours. Slightly browned edges, minimal staining. Old hand written owner's notes and annotations on written area and front endpapers.
