A rectangular relief panel from the Reiner Winkler Collection also shows the same mythological subject in a varying arrangement of the figures. This example is attributed to Antonio Leoni (active ca. 1704-after 1716), who worked at the court of Elector Johann Wilhelm von der Pfalz in Düsseldorf (cf. Christian Theuerkauff: Elfenbein. Reiner Winkler Collection. Munich 1984, p. 71/72, fig. 34. According to Greek legend, Zeus had imprisoned Danae (the daughter of Acrisius) with an old nurse. The god-father of Olympus sought out Danae in the form of a shower of gold. Danae thus became the mother of Perseus.
