STATUE OF THE EVANGELIST LUCAS
Dinant, early 16th century.
Cast brass. The Evangelist standing and reading the Gospel, with the bull at his feet.
H 13 cm.
The matching figure of St. Matthew the Evangelist, most probably by the same author, was auctioned in October 2000 at the Rothenbücher art auction house in Bayreuth (lot 336). According to the catalog, this figure of St. Matthew was on loan to the historical museum of the city of Regensburg from 1979-99.
