Study of the lamenting Magdalene under the cross of Christ.
Red chalk heightened in white. The border line in pen and black ink.

The present drawing is the preparatory figure study of the lamenting Mary Magdalene under the cross of Christ, which Charles-Joseph Natoire designed in 1737 for his engraving "Consummatum est" executed by Benoît Audran the Younger (1698-1772) (see: Philadelphia Museum of Art, inv. no. 1985-52-36745).
