APOSTLE CUP

Cologne, middle of the 17th century. Maker's mark Andreas Pauli II.
The inside gilt. Conical cup on a circular foot ring with a rhombus frieze. The wall is finely engraved with ribbonwork and fruit, and features three cartouches with engraved depictions of the Apostles Peter, John and Paul.
H 8 cm, 70 g.

Cf. an identical cup with depictions of Apostles is in the Collection of the Cologne City Museum, Inventory Number KSM 1981/167, illustrated in: Hildegund Bemmann: Rheinisches Tafelsilber, Rheinbach-Merzbach 1992, No. 219, fig. 68.
Another cup by the master craftsman, with depictions of Peter, John and Paul is kept in the Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Cologne, Inventory Number G5.
A cup by the master craftsman with depictions of the Apostles Peter, Andrew and Paul was on offer on the art market in 2019.
