BOARD GAME TOKEN,
South Germany, probably Augsburg c. 1580.
Turned rosewood gaming piece, mounted with miniature relief, probably boxwood, with carved relief depiction of Judith with the head of Holofernes. Gilt decorative band. Area of loss in the upper section at the woman's hat in the background.
D 5.5 cm.
The present gaming piece was presented to the Germanischen Nationalmuseum in 1995. It was classified by Hermann Maué as Augsburg work and entered in the photo library of the museum.
