PAIR OF RELIEFS, Louis XVI, France, end of the 18th century. "Carrara" and "Giallo di Siena" marble. Allegorical depictions: the war god Mars followed by the winged victory goddess Victoria with destroyed temples and pillars in the background. Inscribed: "La guerre suivie de la victoire". The muse Klio next to Pax, the goddess of peace with a cornucopia, and a landscape of fields and plough in the background. Inscribed: "L'histoire et la paix". Approx. 44x36 cm. Provenance: - Mancel-Coti collection, Paris. - Galerie Caroll, Munich. - Munich private collection.

Carrara- und "Giallo di Siena"-Marmor. In kanneliertem Rahmen gefasste allegorische Darstellungen: Kriegsgott Mars mit Helm, Schwert und Blitzen, gefolgt von geflügelter Siegesgöttin Victoria mit Lorbeerkranz und Palmenzweig, im Hintergrund zerstörte Tempel und Säulen. Bez. "La guerre suivie de la victoire". Die Muse Klio mit Griffel und Schriftrollen, neben ihr die Friedensgöttin Pax mit Füllhorn und Ölzweig, im Hintergrund Landschaft mit Feldern und Pflug. Bez. "L'histoire et la paix". Ca. 44x36 cm.
