BOSSCHAERT, AMBROSIUS d. Ä.
ANTWERPEN 1573–1621 DEN HAAG
Ambrosius Bosschaert was best known for his richly coloured still lifes of bouquets of flowers, with which he established the still life of flowers as an independent genre within Dutch art. In their precision and harmony of colour, Bosschaert's works are akin to those of his contemporary Jan Brueghel the Elder (1568–1625), who greatly influenced him, especially in his early years. His style was continued and developed by his three sons Ambrosius the Younger (1609–1645), Abraham (1612-1643) and Johannes (1607–1628) as well as by his son-in-law Balthasar van der Ast (1593–1657).Works by this artist from our auctions
