DOUBLE HERM

Roman, ca. 2nd century A.D.
White marble carved full round, with sintering. Representation of the god Hermes on both sides. One side as a youth, the other as a mature, older man with beard. The younger side with bulging eyelids and forehead, small pointed mouth, the chin protruding, densely curled hair tied in a diadem. The older side with similar eyes but more widely spaced, small mouth with fleshy lips slightly parted, long mustache with symmetrical curls, the wavy and slightly curly hair tied into a diadem. The hair bands dropping to the shoulders on both sides. On a later rotating base.
H without base 26 cm.


Weathered. Supplements and restorations. Various Losses. Small restoration to the chin of the youth.
