Antwerpen 1573–1621 Den Haag

Ambrosius Bosschaert wurde vor allem für seine farbenkräftigen Stillleben von Blumensträussen bekannt, mit denen er das Blumenstillleben als eigenständiges Genre innerhalb der niederländischen Kunst etablierte. In der Genauigkeit der Darstellung und der Ausgewogenheit in der Farbigkeit gleichen Bosschaerts Arbeiten denen seines Zeitgenossen Jan Brueghel d. Ä. (1568–1625), von dem er besonders in seiner Anfangszeit stark beeinflusst wurde. Sein Stil wurde von seinen drei Söhnen Ambrosius d. J. (1609–1645), Abraham (1612–1643) und Johannes (1607–1628) sowie seinem Schwiegersohn Balthasar van der Ast (1593–1657) weiterentwickelt.
