PENDULUM CLOCK WITH CARILLON

Louis XV, Neuchâtel, middle of the 18th century. The work signed 'J. Robert et Fils à la Chaux-de-Fonds' (probably Josué Robert, 1691-1771).
Curved case, lined with brass sheet. Gilt bronze mounts designed as rocailles and leaves. White enamel dial "en cuvette" with the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in Arabic numerals. Gilt brass frontispiece engraved with flowers and leaves. Movement striking the 1/4-hour on three bells and carillon with nine bells (one defective). Striking mechanism can be switched off. Carillon with several melodies, repeater function. Three keys.
43 × 20 × 83 cm.


Brass sheet metal on the case, later. Dial with chip. Movement requires restoration.

Josué Robert was a Court Clockmaker to the Prussian king. Cf. Alfred Chapuis, Pendules Neuchâteloises, Neuchâtel, 1917, p. 271.
