Ogiez) with blind-stamped brown and gold cover ornaments, gilt spine titles, green chamois leather covers, marbled endpapers, gilt head edges (spine barely noticeably lightened), in marbled half-leather slipcases.

Copies. - The last book illustrated by Maillol, printed on hemp handmade paper specially scooped for this edition. Maillol had already been working on individual sticks since 1909, and again from 1937 on Gonin's initiative; the last woodblock was completed in September 1944. However, printing could not be completed until after the end of the war in 1950. Counterpart to the eclogues already produced on the Cranach press in 1926. The illustrations cut in classical outlines are considered to be Maillol's most artistically mature woodcut works. - Untrimmed copy. - Minimally browned in margins, occasional foxing. - Etched bookplate "Paul Schlesinger" on flyleaf endpaper.
