GUERIDON, so-called "TABLE À OUVRAGE"

Louis XVI style, Paris ca. 1860, signed on a plaque Paul Sormani Rue Charlot 10 Paris (Paul Sormani, 1817-1877). After a model by Martin Carlin.
Tulipwood and amaranth inlaid with leaf scrolls and fillets. Round "Sèvres" porcelain top decorated with flowers and a turquoise border, framed by a gilt, pierced brass rail, on a straight frame with one drawer. Drum-shaped lower section with two crescent-shaped lids opening into four compartments, on four fluted legs with leaf-shaped sabots and casters.
Ø 36 cm, H 81.5 cm.


Legs slightly loose. Good restored condition.

Provenance: Suisse romande private collection.

A similar gueridon after the model by Martin Carlin is illustrated in: Le mobilier du XIX siècle en France et en Europe, Mengès, 1991, p. 134. Further comparable pieces can be found in the Cleveland Museum of Art (inv. no. 1942.594) and in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London (inv. no. 1067-1882).
