LI KERAN (1907–1989).

China, dated Berlin 1957, 62.5 x 138.5 cm.
Ink and colours on paper. Sunrise at Mount Tai. Inscribed and signed: Keran. Three artist's seals: Li, Moxi and Chen yan wu qu. One collector's seal: Xia. Mounted as a hanging scroll.


Provenance:
1. Owned by Lothar Bolz, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the GDR. Li Keran painted the picture in 1957 during a visit to Berlin and dedicated it to Lothar Bolz.
2. Acquired in the 1970s by Jerg Haas, a well-known German collector of Chinese ink painting and calligraphy, who was living in Berlin at the time.
