The art historian Malcolm Baker attributed this elegant ivory portrait to Francis van Bossuit (1635-1692). He cites the undulating drapery of the robe and the dotted background as supporting evidence. This stylistic curiosity is characteristic of Francis van Bossuit's work and is considered a recognizable element of the sculptor's work. Furthermore, the facial physiognomy and the depiction of the hair are typical of the artist.
