Gerlach Adolf Freiherr of Münchhausen (1688-1770) came from an aristocratic family in Lower Saxony and was a member of the Council College for the Electorate of Hannover under the Elector of Hannover, King George II of England.
According to the Dresden State Archives, there was an exchange of letters between Johann Christian von Hennicke, the deputy manufactory director, and Baron von Münchhausen, in which the manufactory director requested a copy of the Münchhausen coat of arms on 4 January 1745. The present must have arrived by 17 April 1745 at the latest, because Munchausen wrote a letter to Meissen, thanking the Manufactory for the "magnifique Königl. Porcellain present" (Hoffmeister 1999 II, p. 602).
