ASTRONOMICAL LONGCASE CLOCK WITH CHIMES AND AUTOMATON,Louis XVI, the dial signed GERARD POUSSET IN AMSTERDAM (active circa 1800), Amsterdam circa 1790. Fluted mahogany inlaid with fine lemonwood fillets, rosettes and garlands. The case with gable and vase atop. The clock with silver-plated bronze chapter ring for minutes and hours and a chapter ring for the seconds, date aperture and day and month indicators, as well as a lever to activate the 14 tunes. Below this, an automaton of moveable ship, moon, windmill and figures. Fine 30 day brass movement with 4/4 striking on 3 bells. Carillon with 14 bells. Requires some restoration. H 280 cm. Provenance: - Collection of the Time Musem, Rockford, Illinois (Inventory number 964). - Sotheby's New York 19.6.2002 (Lot No.207). - from a highly important Eurpean collection. An exceptionally fine clock.
