‘300’ is a 2007 American epic action film loosely based on the 1998 comic series of the same name by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. Both are fictionalised retellings of the Battle of Thermopylae in the Greco-Persian Wars around 480 BCE. In this battle, the spartan King Leonidas fights the invading Persian army of King Xerxes. Greatly outnumbered, he defends his homeland with only 300 brave warriors and while doing so, becomes a legend.
The movie features not only A-list stars like Gerald Buttler and Lena Headey, but also highly trained stunt doubles such as David Leitch who used to be the personal stunt double for actors like Brad Pitt and Jean Claude Van Damme, and for whom the helmet presented here was originally made. Leitch later went on to become a director and producer, directing hit action movies such as ‘John Wick’ and ‘Deadpool’.
This movie prop is in excellent condition, despite being worn in the rough action scenes of the movie. Made of rubber, it has the characteristic look of a historic relic that fits the time period depicted in the movie. The name David Leitch is written, clearly visible, on the inside of the helmet.
