Lucio Fontana's "Concetto Spaziale, Natura" from 1967 is part of a series of bronze sculptures that epitomise his exploration of space and matter. Fontana, known for his radical "Concetti Spaziali" series, which involved slashing into paintings, here applies similar principles to sculpture.
The sculpture, which has an egg-like shape, has been broken up. By opening up the originally smooth geometric body, the boundaries between inside and outside seem to be dissolved - a central theme in Fontana's oeuvre that relates to the understanding of space, emptiness and infinity.
