VERDURE "À GRANDES FEUILLES"
Probably Enghien, 2nd half of the 16th century..
Large cabbage leaves with a large bird and two smaller birds between columns with caryatids and figures on the upper section. Top with grotesque cartouche. Border decorated with fruits and flowers.
250 × 240 cm.
Faded. Sides trimmed. Losses and restorations.

This kind of tapestry with landscape subjects featuring large leaves with birds was very popular in Flanders and was produced in various places. Cf. a similar verdure originating from Enghien at: Guy Delmarcel. La Tapisserie flamande.
