PRINCELY TUREEN WITH COVER. Paris, after 1805. Maker's mark Martin Guillaume Biennais. On the inside of the cover, engraving: "Biennaise, Orfévie de S. Mté. l'Empereur et Roi: à Paris". Square plinth, borne by 4 winged lion heads with small paws, bevelled corners with rosette applied. Rim with surrounding floral frieze. Above: domed, bell-shaped foot with pearl node. The base with an acanthus frieze. The bowl has smooth walls with a slightly protruding rim with a surrounding palm frieze. On both sides: leaf-adorned bow-shaped handle. The walls are divided into sections. In the low section: engraved Borghese coat-of-arms with a laurel wreath with a mask applied above it and flanked by a winged horse. The cover is slightly domed and features a large cone-shaped finial on a palm frond rosette and an engraved Borghese coat-of-arms bearing a crown. Tureen with insert and an engraved letter "B". H 31.5 cm. 2760 g. Bought at the Galerie Stuker.
