SCHAEP, HENRI ADOLPHE

Mechelen 1826–1870 Antwerp

Henri Adolphe Schaep was born in 1826 in the Belgian city of Mechelen. His family moved to Antwerp when he was still young, and he joined the Academy of Fine Arts at the age of 12, together with Egide Linnig (1821–1860). Already during his lifetime, his marine paintings were highly regarded, especially because of their technical skill. Even today, his work can be found in Belgian museums, for example in Antwerp, Brussels and Ostend.
