DEHODENCQ, EDME ALFRED ALEXIS
(1822 Paris 1882)
The artistic beginnings of Edme Alfred Alexis Dehodencq can be found in the studio of the French Neoclassicist and Romanticist, Léon Cogniet (1794–1880). Later, the Paris-born painter went on numerous study trips to Spain, Algeria, and Morocco. The impressions he gained had a formative influence on Dehodencq's artistic training and style. In 1844, he made his debut at the Salon and in the years between 1849 and 1862, which he spent between Tangier and Cádiz, he regularly sent his completed paintings back to the Paris Salon, where they were received with enthusiasm.
