Craveggia 1840–1929 Masera
Antonio Maria Cotti was born in 1840 in the Italian town of Craveggia in Piedmont. He received his initial training in the workshop of Antonio Borgnis (1781–1863) and subsequently studied as a pupil of Léon Cogniet (1794–1880) at the Académie des Beaux Arts in Paris. In 1862 his genre and history paintings were exhibited at the Salon. He decorated many Parisian villas and houses and also worked as a drawing teacher.
Back in Italy, he was commissioned to decorate various churches in the Valle d'Ossola in Piedmont, where he also often worked with Bernardino Peretti (1828–1889). Antonio Maria Cotti died in 1929 at his home in Masera.
