NEYN, PIETER DE
1597 Leiden 1639
Born in Leiden, Pieter de Neyn moved to Haarlem for his training with Esaias van de Velde (1587–1630). There he met Jan van Goyen (1596–1656), who was also apprenticed to Van de Velde at the same time or shortly before. His association with Van Goyen played a formative role in Pieter de Neyn's work. Beginning in 1626, his landscape depictions in particular show significant parallels to Van Goyen's compositions.
