MAZZONI, SEBASTIANO
(Florence 1611–1678 Venice)
Originally from Florence, Sebastiano Mazzoni moved to Venice in 1648, where a number of Italian artists from other parts of the country were settling at the time; among them Pietro della Vecchia (1603–1678) and Francesco Maffei (1605–1660). When viewed in the context of the Venetian High Baroque of his contemporaries, Mazzoni's style may be described as independent and characterised by a mystical atmosphere.
