GALLOCHE, LOUIS

1670 Paris 1761

Louis Galloche was a pupil of Louis de Boullogne the Younger (1654–1733) and won the "Grand Prix de l'Académie royale" in 1695. After his trip to Italy, he returned to Paris in 1701 and was accepted as a history painter by the Académie royale in 1711, where he taught from 1720. Galloche worked for the French court, including at Versailles for the Duc de Bourbon and for the Queen. In addition to mythological scenes, he also painted landscapes, for example for the palace in Fontainebleau and the Grand Trianon.
