Lot 1010* - A211 Glamour and Sophistication: Luxury in 19th-Century Paris - Thursday, 28. November 2024, 10.00 AM

A PAIR OF CANDLESTICKS, WITH A YOUNG SATYR

Louis XVI style, France, 19th century.
Bronze with a brown patina and gilt bronze, in part chased and embossed. A young satyr with an opulently filled fruit basket as a nozzle on a round, retracted base with pearl frieze garlands and an acorn pendant on spherical feet.
H 26 cm.

Scratches and minor dents. Slightly rubbed. 2 pendants replaced. Pearl frieze loose.

The model for the young satyr with a fruit basket may have been derived from an original design for a wall sconce by Louis Prieur (1732–1795), ca. 1775.
