SPHERICAL PYXIS

Apulia, 4th century B.C.
Red-figure terracotta. The lid with a depiction of a seated bride with a fan, opposite a youth with a bridal gift in the form of a casket. The bowl features a seated youth with a rectangular gift as well as a fan. Decorated with palmettes and meanders. The saucer glued onto plexiglass.
H 29 cm, D 22 cm.

A letter from Professor Schauenburg (Kiel) of 30 November 2009 attributes the spherical pyxis on offer to the workshop of the White Saccos Painter.
