TURRET-SHAPED CLOCK WITH ALARM

Southern Germany, probably Augsburg, 17th century.
Copper, punched and engraved with flowers and leaves, and gilt. Architectural case on a broad, stepped plinth. Open-worked bell cage with balustrade and a dome-shaped top. Silver-plated and engraved dial for the hours in Roman numerals over a smaller silver-plated dial for the minutes. Small additional dial on the back. Movement with lever escapement and short rear pendulum. Winding with fusee and chain. Striking mechanism striking the hour on bell. Alarm on bell.
16.5 × 16.5 × 35 cm.

Minor supplements, slightly incomplete. Large hand missing. Movement requires revision. Gilding rubbed.

Provenance: European private collection.

A similar turret clock is exhibited in the Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas, Madrid (Inv. No. CE19578).
