CANDLESTICK FOOT

Romanesque, North German or Flemish, 12th/13th century.
Cast bronze with dark patina. Triangular shape, the wall slightly curved and pierced and decorated with dragon motifs. The corners also decorated with sculpted dragon figures. Claw feet.
9.5 × 9.5 ×5.5 cm.

Chip on one wall.

The dragon motif is very common on these candlestick feet. This is also the case with a comparable candlestick foot in the Focke Museum in Bremen, described there as Minden, 1st half of the 12th century. cf. Bronzegeräte des Mittelalters. Volume 1 Romanische Leuchter und Gefässe Giessgefässe der Gotik. Berlin 1983, fig. 113, p. 52.
