A GORGEOUS LACQUER SET OF A DOCUMENT BOX AND A WRITING BOX.
Japan, 18th/19th c. Length 42 cm (bunko) and 27 cm (suzuribako).
Consisting of a large document box (ryôshi bunko) and matching writing box (suzuribako) with ink-grinding stone (suzuri) and water dropper (suiteki). Domed covers and sides lacquered with a cherry tree in gold and silver hira- and takamakie with kirikane on roiro. The inner sides beautifully embellished with shell shaped reserves. With inscribed tomobako. Some minor damages and restorations. (2)
