PORTAL CLOCK
Louis XVI, Paris, ca. 1780.
White and gray marble, gilt and burnished bronze. The top decorated with an eagle and two putti. The sides decorated with caryatids. On a rectangular plinth, with a recessed bronze relief featuring angels playing music. Oval "Wedgewood" plaque with a mythological scene. White enamel dial (cracks and losses). Movement with anchor escapement, striking the 1/2-hour on bell. 1 key.

The clock on offer is a popular model of a portal clock from the time of Louis XVI, which was made in numerous slightly different versions, cf. Elke Niehüser: Die französische Bronzeuhr, Munich, 1997, p. 258.
