EGG-SHAPED TRAVEL CLOCK,
so-called "neck clock" or "Nuremberg egg", Renaissance, the movement signed GEORG SCHMIDT AUGSBURG (1581 Augsburg 1608), Augsburg, ca. 1600.
Bronze and silver, gilt and engraved. Silver-plated, engraved dial. 2 fine hands. Pocket watch movement with verge escapement, striking the 1/4-hour and the hour on bell. Lunette, adapted later. Mounted on a later horse figure with movable eyes. On a shaped, ebonized plinth, inscribed "Volat irrevocabile tempus et dies tuos diminuerat". Gilt bronze Mounts and applications.
