SMALL BOULLE CLOCK "D'ALCOVE",

Regence, the cartouche on top and the movement signed PIERRE ROUSSEAU
A PARIS (Pierre Rousseau, maître 1715), Paris, ca. 1715/25.


Brown tortoiseshell, finely inlaid with partially engraved brass fillets in "première–partie"; cartouches, leaves and decorative frieze. Rectangular case, tapered plinth. Bronze dial with 12 enamel cartouches for hours in Roman numerals and a narrow chapter ring for minutes in Arabic numerals. 2 finely pierced iron hands. Replaced anchor movement from the late 18th century, striking the 1/2–hour on 2 bells. Repetition on demand. Exceptionally fine, matte and polished gilt bronze mounts. Strong veneer alterations. 21x13x58 cm.
