PAUL BRIL

1. A mountainous river landscape; 2. Landscape with two travellers. From the series: Views of the coast of Campania. 1590.
Etching and copper engraving on laid paper. No 1 with coat of arms with star and letter 'M'.
Each signed and dated in the plate lower right corner: Paulus Bril Inuent & Fecit 1590; Inscribed in lower margin to the left: Romae.
20.6 x 27.6 cm and 21 x 28 cm.

Provenance:
- Private collection, Switzerland.

Hollstein 1 and 2, each I (of IV, before the Orlandi address). - Vibrant, deep black, even, clear impressions with a light tone. Each with the lower text margin and margins of approx. 2 to 3.5 cm around the plate marks. Isolated tiny stains and minimal traces of wear and finger marks in the margins. Overall in very good condition. - Rare in such a fine condition.
Supplementary item: Circle of PAUL BRIL. Rocky landscape with castle. Etching and copper engraving on laid paper. 23.5 x 28.5 cm.
