ITOMAKI NO TACHI (SWORD WITH CORD WRAPPED SCABBARD).

Japan, Shinshintô period (late Edo period), length of blade 68 cm.
Shôbuzukuri style, slight koshi-zori sugata, chôji gunome midareba hamon, itame and mokue hada. Elaborately designed mount with saya worked in gold lacquer, decorated with the three leafed hollyhock crest used by the Tokugawa family, a four-leafed tsuba also adorned with mon, which is also on fuchi, kabutogane and menuki. Some scratches and nicks.


Provenance: Old private collection from Southern Germany.
