BOULLE CLOCK ON PLINTH
Régence, Paris ca. 1740. The movement signed Etienne Le Noir à Paris (mentioned ca. 1740).
Tortoise shell with brown underlay, inlaid with engraved brass designed as tendrils and blossoms. Wooden case, the top decorated with a female figure. Attractive bronze mounts designed as dragons, scrolled leaves, palmettes, heads of women, and espagnolettes. Relief-decorated bronze dial with a central alarm dial and white enamel cartouches. Movement converted to anchor escapement, striking the 1/2-hour on bell. Alarm mechanism removed.
