A RARE BRONZE FIGURE OF ACUOYE GUANYIN.

China, Yunnan, Dali kingdom, 12th c. Height 33 cm (without base).
Traces of red lacquer and gilt. The base is later added.


Provenance: From the collection of Marie Pierre Isle de Beauchaine (Orléans 1881 - 1934 Hanoi). Hence by descent.
He came as an adolescent to Tonkin (Vietnam) where he became a custom's officer and participated in archeological expeditions to northern Laos. He was acquainted with the emperor of Vietnam Khai Dinh.
Compare similar pieces in the British Museum London, the Metropolitan Museum New York, the Musée Guimet in Paris and the Yunnan Provincial Museum in Kunming.
