PAIR OF STOOLS,
Louis XV, Northern Italy, probably Genoa ca.1740/50.
Wood, finely carved with shells, leaves and decorative frieze, and gilt. Pale pink silk velour cover, patterned with colorful flowers and leaves.
D 40 cm. H 45 cm.

- from a private collection, Switzerland.
A pair of stools with very similar shell carvings, stemming from the Collection Dalva Brothers in New York and likewise attributed to the Genoese decorative arts was sold at Christie's New York on 20 October 2006 (Lot No. 777). A further one, stemming from the "Collection de la Princesse de X", was sold by Sotheby's Monte Carlo on 25 June 1984 (Lot No. 3211).
