IMPORTANT CABINET, INLAID WITH "PIETRA DURA",

Renaissance, Florence, ca. 1600/30.
Shaped ebony, exquisitely inlaid with "Pietra Dura" on all sides; coat of arms of the Medici family, various exotic songbirds, flowers, leaves and decorative frieze. Feet, replaced. Shaped plinth of the frame, later. Front with central door between 2 drawers, flanked by 4 paneled double drawers. Fitted interior with large central drawer between 2 large drawers, flanked by 2 small drawers. Fine gilt bronze and brass mounts and applications, in part altered. Restorations and alterations. The frame, ca. 1870 and attributable to H.A. FOURDINOIS (Henri Auguste Fourdinois, 1830 Paris 1907) . Wood, exquisitely carved with stylised sphinxes, caryatids and foliage, and ebonized.
Cabinet 109x35x95 cm. Frame 135x46x99 cm.

Provenance:
- The coat of arms cartouche bearing the "palle medicee" suggests that the cabinet on offer was probably made for a member of the Medici family.
- From a European collection.
