A SILVER CUP. China, dated 1883, h 16.3 cm, w 392 g. Motto "Fidelitas vincit" under a griffin's head. Presentation inscription: "Victoria Regatta Hong Kong 1883; American Cup; Four Oars 1 Mile; Won By; E.G. Wilford; J.H. Stewart-Lockhart; H. Muller; T.R. Fisher Stroke; H.E. Angier-Cox". Mark "Chienam" and a character at the base.

Silber, getrieben, graviert. Bauchiger Pokal mit zwei Drachenhandhaben.Vier üppig ausgearbeitete Kartuschen mit figürlichem und floralem Dekor. Motto "Fidelitas vincit" unter einem Greifenkopf auf der einen Schauseite, auf der anderen Inschrift: "Victoria Regatta Hong Kong 1883; American Cup; Four Oars 1 Mile; Won By; E.G. Wilford; J.H. Stewart-Lockhart; H. Muller; T.R. Fisher Stroke; H.E. Angier-Cox". Punze "Chienam" und Schriftzeichen im Fuss.


The "Victoria Regatta Club" was founded 1849 as one of the first sport clubs in Hong Kong. Renamed to "Victoria Recreation Club" in 1872, the focus of the early years was on sailing and rowing.
