GOLD AND HELIOTROPE TRAVEL SET

Probably England, 2nd half of the 18th century. Unmarked.
Heliotrope with a gold mount (14 ct). The wall appliquéd with gallant scenes and motifs consisting of flowers, fruit, leaves, bacchanalian dances, and birds. The clasp decorated with silver diamond-set roses, rubies (?) and emeralds (?). The travel set contains various utensils for personal hygiene, including two red glass perfume bottles with gold closures in the shape of a mask, two iron knife blades with gold knife pommels with screw-on closures, a pencil, a matching curved hinged case with a heliotrope and probably missing mirror in a gold mount, a gold-mounted small comb, two bone note plates with illegible writing. One utensil missing. Underside with label.
